More details to follow!
We invite you to our Good Friday Service on March 30th at 7 PM. We will be singing songs and seeing from God’s Word why Jesus had to die. Whether you are already a part of our church, looking for a church, or wondering what this Jesus thing is all about, we welcome you to come join us this Good Friday.
Sunday, March 18 at 5 PM
Denver Baptist Church will be hosting a prayer service with other area churches (i.e. Grace Baptist in Waverly, Riverwood Church in Waverly, Open Bible in Jesup & more). Come join us in prayer for a time of adoration for Jesus, our Savior, and to pray for our local area here is Iowa. Fellowship afterwards where a light meal will be served.
As mentioned in the previous post, Advent Conspiracy encourages people to give to a worthy cause instead of spending money on gifts that people don’t really need. Denver Baptist Church encourages you to help us support Denver Cares, a small group that helps people here in Denver, IA with gas, food, and other bills.
We ask for you to consider supporting Denver Cares with us. It’s so easy, you just have to do this:
- Donate Money
-If writing a check, please put memo line as ‘Denver Cares’
– You can drop off the donation in the wrapped box in the foyer at Denver Baptist Church or give it to an Elder.
- Grab a Christmas card and envelope to give to the person you have donated for. We have made up some cards for you and they are in the foyer at the church!
- Think about what they would like to do instead of the gift. Schedule time or go to an event with this person to let them know that they are special and you are thankful for them.
- Be relieved. Not only is your Christmas shopping done, but you have given to a great cause that helps people in your community!
Please help us support those in our community!
Advent Conspiracy encourages people to worship Jesus fully as they spend less, give more, and love all. We, as a church, want to encourage you to do the same. In short, this is how it works: Consider how much you typically spend at Christmas. Instead of buying gifts for people, take that money and donate it. Then at Christmas time, you can give them a card and let them know that you donated it to a certain cause in their name.
This Christmas season, Denver Baptist Church is going to be supporting Denver Cares. Denver Cares is a small group in Denver, IA, dedicated to helping those in our own community. They help with gas, food, and other bills. Jesus sought, loved, and helped the least of these.
We ask for you to consider this whole advent conspiracy concept and help us support Denver Cares. Contact Denver Baptist Church if you want to know more! We hope and pray that you have a blessed Christmas, celebrating Jesus, “the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as the the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).

Denver Baptist Church is excited to introduce our new pastor! Zach Sommerlot and his family have just moved to Iowa from South Dakota. Zach will start his new position in July.
Zach Sommerlot grew up in Dunkerton, Iowa. He spent every summer, since he was a boy, working for his dad’s construction company (Sommerlot Brothers Construction – Commercial Grain Handling Systems) and was involved in most sports. He attended Ellsworth Community College and played football.
He then transferred to the University of Northern Iowa where he got involved with the Navigators college ministry. It was during this time that he felt God calling him to vocational ministry. Following this, Zach moved to Sioux Falls to attend North American Baptist Seminary (now Sioux Falls Seminary). There, he got involved with a church plant in a nearby town where he was mentored and gained a lot of pastoral experience. In May 2011, Zach was commissioned by their church to plant another church in Brandon SD, a town nearby.
Denver Baptist Church welcomes Zach and his family and looks forward to serving Jesus Christ together. In addition to his and his family’s passion for Christ, the Sommerlot family loves being outdoors, playing at parks, barbecuing, having people over, and singing.
Good Friday Service
Friday, April 14, at 7:00 PM, we gather together to remember Christ’s sacrifice.
He shed His blood for you and me.
For those of you who were at DBC last Sunday, Pastor Scott spoke of a man who had a prayer chair. To sum it up, it was a story to remind us that we need to find a place and time to pray and meditate on God’s word. You can also listen to Pastor Scott’s sermon on 02/26/17. This morning, the sanctuary looked like this, a stream of light hitting the “prayer chair” and reflected the cross on the wall. God’s reminder for us to cast our anxieties and our praises onto Him.
