Starting this Sunday, Sept 10th, I will begin a sermon series thought the book of Philippians titled, “Completion.” The title is based off of Philippians 1:6, “And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” The idea is that when we are born again we have not arrived. When we are born again, we gain the DNA of Christ much like an acorn has the DNA of an Oak Tree. Like an acorn, we must germinate, get the proper nutrients and water in order to grow into in Oak Tree, so we must germinate in our faith and gain the proper spiritual nutrients to grow into the Oak Tree – the likeness of Jesus Christ. My hope for this sermon series is that it bears a lot of fruit in yourself and in the church. Please also read through the book of Philippians a couple of times so that it is on your heart as we begin.
In Adult Sunday School this fall , we are going to be looking under the surface. We have a tendency of putting on facades and not being real and honest with what is under the surface. Vulnerability and authenticity is God’s means for true and lasting healing as well as gospel community. So, our goal is to really use this time Sunday morning to go under the surface with ourselves and each other.
